Good morning,
I'm having trouble coming up with a title for this blog. Maybe as I type, one will come to me.
This week has barely begun, but with each day I have been blessed with the love and inspiration of new friends and experiences.
I typically avoid joining groups unless it’s for "fun" with existing friends and family. I have had to change that way of thinking and jump out of my comfort zone over these last many months of unemployment. Looking for a job is not what it was 20 years ago, or 10 or even 5 years ago. Every week I read articles about what your resume should include, how it should or shouldn’t be formatted, and whether you should include a cover letter or not. And, each week someone has a new tactic, e.g. job boards post fictitious or old jobs for advertising purposes, many of the real jobs have already been filled by the time they are posted, seeking “hidden” jobs, etc. It’s overwhelming at best. Joining a couple of job clubs has been my life saver and inspiration for bigger and better activities. I’m still unemployed but am validated each week knowing that I’m doing the right things. Now it’s the scary tactic of Networking.
Joining or attending a church regularly has not been on my bucket list. However, over the last few months I have been guided down a path to grow my faith; my relationship with God. This guidance has not come from door to door shepherds, or the encouragement of friends or family. I know it’s from lots of prayer and a loving voice in my heart leading me to attend and join Bayside Career Coaching (BCC)/Job One, a Bayside Church ministry for job seekers. There has been no pressure to join the church; no judgment or pressure of any kind; only acceptance and care, I feel safe and protected.
Monday I met with a career counselor at BCC/Job One with regard to a resume concept I wanted to try. We discussed it and she agreed it could work. But she didn’t end there. We proceeded to talk and I was lifted to a place I haven’t been in a long time. I’ve met with her on a few other occasions so she’s gotten to know me pretty well, not to mention she is a professional therapist, outside of Job One. As we spoke she said she just thought of the perfect tag phrase for me. I am so inspired to stay on course. Ah, here’s the title for this blog…
Yesterday morning I met a gal, also from BCC/Job One for a volunteer opportunity. A huge event is coming to Sacramento in June. “Imagine…Thousands of people in the Greater Sacramento area united and equipped to address the community’s critical needs by sharing their lives and their resources to improve the quality of life for everyone.” This will be Luis Palau Sacramento Festival. I feel so blessed to be a part of this event.
Anyone who knows me knows I do my research and ask a lot of questions before jumping into anything. Bayside Church is huge; thousands of people attend this church over the weekends. This is not something I’m ready for right now. However, they also offer “small groups” for whatever a person or couple might be interested in.
I started my first Bible studies class for women last night. It was a purely awesome experience. Approximately 300 women assigned to tables of 8-12 attended this session. Each table with its special leader dined and became acquainted. Women of all ages gathered to begin a journey of learning and growing our relationship with Jesus Christ. It was beyond awesome…
